January 31, 2021 Weekly Update #5
Supervisors have A LOT of meetings. Here are some of the meetings I attended this week.
Monday
I had a Monday morning meeting with the Waste Management staff to get an update on their contracts and how they work with the County of Mendocino. I have not worked with Waste Management in the past as the City of Ukiah uses C&S Waste Solutions as their waste hauler.
I also had an Introduction with Hillside Health Clinic's new Executive Director Scott McFarland and Jill Damian the Chief Operations Officer. Of course, I would rather have these meetings in person but it's still important to get to know everyone and learn about their organizations and how they interact with the County.
On Monday we had a limited Board Meeting here are the outcomes from my perspective:
3. BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AND MISCELLANEOUS
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AGENDA

ADJOURNMENT
Wednesday
On Wednesday I attended my first Behavioral Health Advisory Board as a Supervisor. I have been attending those meetings while I was campaigning so it was good to be back again.
The City of Ukiah has contracted with Walk & Bike Mendocino to update their Active Transportation Plan, so I attended that meeting to weigh in on what I know the community has asked for. Also, I got an EBike as a Christmas Gift and I would love to have safer ways to get around town. Unfortunately, I missed the Measure B meeting because I was at an MTA Meeting, but here is the YouTube link so you can watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6H6RNc8Xqrs I am still trying to figure out how the Measure B Committee works and I'm not on the Ad Hoc but I am trying to make sure I ask good questions so if you have feedback please let me know.
Did you know that you can write to the Mendocino Transit Authority and request routes that might be helpful It's called the Unmet Needs List. I am curious how many people reading this have ridden the MTA let me know why or why not.
I had a meeting about Tiny Houses and how they could fit in to the Mendocino County Zoning Code to create more housing in our rural community. If you are interested in Tiny Homes I suggest you check out Lindsey Wood on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdZ1IeLgnWU
Wednesday the team from the County Project Homekey held a meeting. This was a community meeting to hear from the neighbors and gather feedback. They launched a website. I encourage you to check it out and ask questions and give your feedback. The team has thought of many things but I'm sure they would appreciate your ideas. More information is being added every week so please let me know if you see any key points missing. http://projecthomekeymendocino.org/
Thursday
Every Thursday morning I start the day with "Coffee and Conversation" this is a half hour Zoom from 7:15a-7:45a, you can come as you are and there is no set agenda. We talk about whatever is on your mind. This Thursday we talked about the Project Homekey meeting and the future of Cannabis in Mendocino County.
During Thursdays Mendocino Business and Government Leaders meeting we spent much of our time discussing the vaccine roll out and talking about how we can remind people to make sure that they are still practicing good hygiene habits. Right now we are not meeting our minimum testing numbers with Optum Serve so we need to make sure that we are encouraging people to get tested so we don't lose this resource. Please look forward to more information on social media channels about testing and the Mask Up Mendo message and share with your friends.
For several years I have been on the Mendocino Advisory Board of the Workforce Alliance of the North Bay. I met with the team from Sonoma and Mendocino Counties to discuss my new role as a Supervisor. There are many resources available through this agency for both employers and job seekers so I look forward to sharing more information with you all.
I attended he Countywide Oversight Board for the Mendocino County Successor Agency. I hope to be appointed by the Board at our next regular meeting as the County of Mendocino Representative.
Friday
Friday morning I had the opportunity to talk with some of the folks from CalPellets the Mendocino Forest Products wood pellet plant in Calpella. We discussed the process that they have had with the Air Quality Control Board and want to work to schedule a field trip with the Climate Action Mendocino group to have some questions answered.
In the afternoon I met with two members of the Friends of the Ukiah Library to talk about the consultants that are doing a needs assessment of the Ukiah Library.
My other meetings on Friday afternoon included the North Coast Railroad Authority Special Closed Session meeting and a conversation on how to support pregnant women addicted to opioids and how we can work together as a community to build a better future for their children.
The most important news of the weekend though:
I became a GRANDMA!!
Baby Teagan Maria Mendoza was born 1/29/21 and she's the most perfect little angel you have ever seen!
Have a successful week!
