February 7, 2021 Weekly Update #6
Monday
Monday was my first meeting as a LAFCO representative for the County of Mendocino. We had an update from Beth Salomon from the Russian River Flood Control District about drought conditions.
Monday was also the first day of Black History Month. I co-sponsored a Proclamation with Supervisor Haschak on the February 9th agenda honoring African American/Black History Month. I am posting information about Black History each day on my Facebook page so make sure that you take a look. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/mo4mendo
Supervisor Williams and I joined in a meeting with the area health care clinics to talk about the VaccinateMendo.com and how it could be used to find people that want to be vaccinated.
Tuesday
On Tuesday I helped at the City of Ukiah vaccine clinic. They were administering second doses to teachers and school district staff. Right now the Ukiah Unified School District plans on re-opening some elementary class rooms by the end of February for hybrid in person learning so its very important that we make sure the teachers are protected. Here is the link to the UUSD Safe Reopening Plan: https://www.uusd.net/apps/news/article/1382337
Wednesday
On Wednesday I had a Zoom orientation with the Clerk of the Board Staff. Starting a new job during a pandemic is certainly interesting. It can be a little challenging to figure out who does what. I met with three Clerk of the Board staff to hear which assignments they each have. Of course its not the same as meeting in person but I think I'm getting the hang of it. I'm glad they are willing to help me until I can get it figured out!
After my meeting I went to volunteer at the vaccine clinic at the fairgrounds but everything was so well organized and managed there wasn't anything for me to do. There have been a lot of improvements since I first started volunteering to help at the vaccine clinics. The CEO had to lobby at the State level for additional vaccines to make sure there were enough second doses so as we move forward there will be plenty of vaccines for everyone that wants them. It seems as though with the Fairgrounds Clinic, the Adventist Health/Clinic system and the City of Ukiah vaccine events we should be able to stand up as many clinics as we have vaccines for.
Thursday
Thursday February 4th was a special day! My youngest daughter turned 11! Of course we also had work to do but I really had to share that!
Thursday was my 7:15am Coffee and Conversation meeting, feel free to join in next week! The Zoom link is below.
The Mendocino Business and Government Leaders focused on Economic Recovery and what Mendocino County needs to move forward. After the meeting I had a call with Chiah Rodrigues from Arcanna Farms and Mendocino Generations. Chiah is a legacy cultivator, who's family has been in Mendocino County Cannabis for Generations. We talked about what small farmers need to get through Phase 1 of the Mendocino Cannabis Ordinance. I was able to drop in (virtually, of course) to the Mendocino Childhood Trauma Action Team. This is a group of service providers that get together to discuss collaborating in the most efficient ways to support our vulnerable youth population.
In the afternoon I dropped by the Economic Development Corporation Executive Committee Meeting to hear about Phoenix's plans for the agency moving forward.
Supervisor Williams and I heard feedback from some of the local reporters about what information they would like to hear from the County and how often. There are plenty of ways to improve at this point so I welcome the feedback and trying to figure out how to communicate with the public.
Friday
On Friday I had a virtual meeting with the Information Technology team. There is a lot of work to do to get Mendocino County comfortable relying on technology to get the information out to its constituents. This has been highlighted in the last several years with the fires and of course now the pandemic. The more proactive we can be the better.
Saturday
One of my daughters favorite things to do is go to the beach so we went over to Mendocino on Saturday and built a fort and let her pug play in the waves. Before we headed home we tried out the Emerald Dolphin Miniature Golf Course. It was a beautiful day but we've both got a lot more work to do on our miniature golf skills.
Sunday
Today was spent with Super Bowl Snacks and more agenda prep. I work on the agenda prep each day and finalize my notes the night before. Here is what's on the agenda this week:
