February 21, 2021 Weekly Update #8
Monday
On Monday I met at Riverside Park in Ukiah with several members of the California Natural Plant Society. We went for a walk and talked about the proposed Oak Woodland Ordinance and how they feel it will have an effect on the environment in Mendocino County. A little bit about what alternatives might be and how the felt the process should move forward.
Tuesday
Tuesday I was able to get a primer on LAFCO for Mendocino County and discuss with the Executive Director roles and responsibilities and where projects were left off.
In the afternoon I joined in on a call with community outreach partners. They were discussing how to maximize the use of the Pandemic Food Program and how to make sure that more people in our community take advantage of the CalFresh program to be able to feed their families.
After that I joined in with some Sonoma County elected officials and we had an update on how we can work with Sonoma State University. It is really important to me to connect the two counties, I love working with other elected officials on collaboration.
Wednesday
On Wednesday I joined in the CSAC (California State Association of Counties) webinar on using social media as an elected official. Using social media to communicate with constituents is a fairly new environment as far as policy goes. Its important to me that I'm able to maintain my own personal profile and freedom as well as maintain an "official" page. I hope that you have found my Supe page on social media @ Mo4Mendo
Thursday
Thursdays seem to be my busiest day with meetings. I started the morning at 7:15am with Coffee and Conversation, no one joined me which is ok but I reserve that time to answer questions and meet with constituents so I don't mind just holding the space.
Thursday at 8am the North Coast Railroad Authority met for a Special Meeting and unanimously approved to move forward with the railbanking process from Willits to Humboldt County.
When we met as the Mendocino Business and Community Leaders I did an update on vaccines and testing. We need more people to test to make sure that we catch asymptomatic carriers and to keep our testing positivity ratio down.
The MSWA Board met, its important to keep on track of the budget of this small organization. Fortunately many of the board members have experience and have been there for several years.
In the afternoon I met with the folks from Guillion so I could get an update on where the project at the Courthouse left off.
I also met virtually with Barbara Moed from the Air Quality Management District to get an update on the projects they are working on and to try to understand how the department works in coordination with the Board of Supervisors.
Thursday night there was a Great Redwood Trail Town Hall where they discussed the benefits the Great Redwood Trail can have on the health and economy of our communities and where the project is in the process.
https://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/news/great-redwood-trail-to-stretch-from-sf-bay-to-humboldt-bay-enters-plannin/
Friday
Last year I attended Leadership Mendocino. This year I have been participating in the Executive Leadership forums presented by the Community Foundation. This is a great opportunity to hear best practices from local non-profit and business Leaders.
Saturday
On Saturday afternoon I went down to the fairgrounds to volunteer at the vaccine clinic. I asked people the medical questions while they waited to get their vaccine. The process to get the vaccine has come such a long way. They are working really hard to get as many people through the process as we have vaccines available. Hopefully the State will be able to release more vaccines soon and we can plan regular days of the week to open the clinics for local folks that want the vaccine.
Sunday
Sunday I worked on agenda prep, we have a meeting on Tuesday. Check out the agenda below!
Have a successful week!
