Wednesday
Once a month I meet with Ukiah City Councilmember and City Manager Sangiacomo. This is the best way to keep updates on things happening in my district and discuss hot topics from the County. We discussed if there was potential for another Project Homekey location in the City if funding becomes available. For now the City and County are waiting to see what funding is available and what the requirements are. We also discussed the UVSD and City communications and the recycled water project.
I was running a little late but made it to the Ukiah Main Street Program Meeting. In case you didn’t know I’ve been on the UMSP way before I was an elected official and having had a downtown location for 10 years at various businesses it’s important to me that we keep up the continuity and promotion of the Downtown. We discussed the upcoming Streetscape celebration (August 28th, save the date), pumpkin fest (10/15-10/17), the First Friday Art Walk and some new businesses

Thursday
Mendocino Business and Government Leaders was started at the beginning of the pandemic as a way to connect the Cities with the County. We now meet monthly to discuss Covid rates, testing and economic recovery. We still have many cases in Mendocino County. If you haven’t been vaccinated please consider getting vaccinated. If you aren’t vaccinated please consider testing if you attend a social function or event.
I had a couple of cannabis meetings.
Coffee regarding Cannabis - concerned community member/pro-referendum. We had about an hour long conversation and most of it surrounded the lack of trust in the County capacity to run a successful cannabis program. The only thing that’s going to change that is experience and getting the job done. We need time for that.
Coffee regarding Cannabis again - unsuccessful applicant. As the cannabis program sorts through the applications I’m sure we will see more of these folks that got a denial letter. The BOS has been consistent on the reasons for denial so hopefully it won’t happen too often.

On Friday morning I had a check in with CalFire regarding Alert and Warning and what systems they utilize.
Saturday
Saturday was the Kids Triathalon in Ukiah and I had a great time on the set up crew. It’s so important that we give kids a healthy outlet. Thank you to the City of Ukiah for putting it on, North Coast Striders for “running the run” and Walk and Bike Mendocino for the bike event. Adventist Health provided lunch and the merchants from the Pear Tree Center provided a goodie bag.
Sunday
Sunday was a celebration for Carre Brown’s Retirement with MWPC. It was a really lovely afternoon. I got to talk about how as a council member Carre had encouraged me to come to the table with the Army Corp to have the deferred maintenance at Lake Mendo. At the end of her speech Carre gifted me a beautiful broach to use as my lucky election token. What an honor!

Direct staff to amend the County of Mendocino Cannabis Equity Program including but not limited to increasing the income threshold associated with the grant program's eligibility criteria, simplifying the grant applications, and increasing the amount of grant funding available through the direct grant program.
